My second official office day, where I got to spend some time learning about eligibility today. Started by typing and submitting eligibility forms to OHSAA for the softball team. This specific form you have to put their names, date of birth, and start date at the school, to see if they are eligible by age. There was one case where there was an older person but was still eligible because she went to a charter school, and her athletic school is still considered Northland High School. We went through eligibility reports regarding transfers for Columbus City Schools. Each student athlete has eligibility reports of when and where they transferred to. Transfers within Columbus City Schools are acceptable based off where they live, and where they are transferring from. Looking at these reports, you have to check to see what athletic flags each student potentially has. Meaning what all sports they play and are they eligible to play for that respected school through normal regulations or bylaw exceptions. Enrollment records are important because athletes could transfer in or out of the city, but they could possibly have to sit out half of the season. It could be the first half or the last half of the schedule. Transferring out of the city into a new district is made possible if you have a correct address, with a parent or guardian living in that respective home. Out of state or out of Columbus transfers have different protocols. Are they coming from or have a guardian in a 50-mile radius, who has custody and must have a parent in the state of Ohio? In order to successful participate in athletic sports, all transfers must meet the requirements in regard to proximity. It was a lot to learn and process. Mario did a great job explaining how everything works and the importance of all details that goes into eligibility.
