Today with Columbus City Schools, it was another office day, and we went over winter awards for Columbus City athletes and winter award banquets for the respective schools. We went over which athletes lettered or were nominated for All-City or All-District nominees. Being a part of this process is still a blessing because these student-athletes were allowed to have a season, and they will be nominated for awards for a limited season, which speaks volumes about their efforts. Also, Mario taught me the process of becoming a nomination for athletic scholarships for senior student athletes. In order to be nominated for these scholarships, a student-athlete must've lettered in three different sports, can't have full ride Division 1 scholarships, and must have a 3.0 or higher. The specific scholarship award is called the Columbus Dispatch Scholar. Personally, it's a very diverse scholarship just based off the fact they have community service hours, student and class rank, SAT and ACT scores. It's absolutely beneficial to be a part of a team and organization that values the effort of their students, as well as student-athletes. Hopefully, I can put some input into some decisions for scholarships, but its above my pay grade. Most of these days in the office are consisting of getting ready for spring sports, getting schedule and times together for each participant. Mainly, we will be focusing on track & field as well as softball. I’m excited to learn the specific covid protocols that will determine participation for all athletes and city schools involved. Another day down, and a lot more to go, with a lot more to learn.
