Today, I was excited to learn that I would be the active Athletic Director for the basketball contests that took place at Northland High School. Ever since I started this program, I looked at becoming an AD besides owning a sports facility. This was great because he let me handle his duties while he shadowed me to make sure I was comfortable with the position. Instead of him having all the conversations, I was now having those conversations with referees, and opposing coaches on what they should expect playing in Northland’s facility. For this contest, we eliminated their bench area and had both teams using bleachers socially distanced. It’s something I never seen before. Players are running in and out of the stands to enter or leave the game. You see a lot of abnormal things during these abnormal times. Both contests started on time and all parties involved were on time as well and it made it a lot easier for me as the active Director of Athletics. I felt good running the show for the first time and I can see myself in that position, even though it’s not all the responsibilities but it’s a start to what could be something great. Still had to perform the same duties as normal for post-game and had to prepare for the next weeks contest in Columbus City.
