For my time today, I had the expectation of being the head Director of Athletics for this basketball event for Columbus City. But my supervisor had other things in mind today because the health department would be in attendance for this specific game to see if we are following Covid protocols. To ensure safety, I was in charge of making sure that we had masks available for all players and personnel involved, make sure to have different sanitation stations on both sides of the floor to maintain social distance and limited contact with the opposite personnel. With teams having less warm-up time and not allowed to use locker rooms for any reason. I had to make sure that both bench areas were sanitized before and after each contest. There were to scheduled games with JV (Junior Varsity) and Varsity. Using special sanitation practices, had to wipe down all chairs and bench areas for both teams, during pre-game and post-game. One thing that I’m starting to learn is that you have to get your hands dirty sometimes. Not any position within Columbus City Schools is afraid of putting in some hard work from time to time. They are trying to keep a good reputation as an organization to do things the right way no matter the circumstance. It’s been very hard to see other schools outside of Columbus City enjoy the freedoms that Columbus City hasn’t been able to enjoy. In order for us to do that, it starts with following these protocols in order to have success. Studying these protocols during pre-game to make sure all of the checkmarks are completed. Also, I learned if we had any mistakes no matter the size of the mistake, the school could possibly be fined, and put winter activities in danger of being postponed or suspended again. I don’t want the kids to go through that heartbreak, so I have to do my part to make sure student athletes are able to compete in their respective winter activity.
