Today with Columbus City Schools, my activity was increased by taking more responsibility as the active Athletic Director. This was exciting because I was excited and ready for more responsibility and trying to make an impact in other ways. I was in charge of transportation for both schools involved. One with wrestling and the other one with basketball. I can speak on other school districts but in Columbus City, you have to submit a trip request prior to the actual event in order to get the proper busses scheduled for pick up and drop off. On this trip request, you have to submit the date of the event, times of departure and arrival to and from the exact location, and how many people will be on the bus. Number of people is now important because of covid protocols within the bus system. There can only be half of capacity on all buses to maintain social distancing as best as possible. So far, the environment has been very good, getting to know all the personnel that’s involved in Columbus City, makes this job a lot easier for me because if I need any help, they wouldn’t mind giving a helping hand. This is a step in the right direction for me because with all the limited opportunity, I am blessed to still get this opportunity to get up close and personal with gameday management, as well as creating new relationships. One thing that I’m quickly finding out is the post-game clean up, making sure the teams have safely got on their busses, and making sure the facility is spotless after everybody leaves. It’s a little easier now because fans aren’t allowed at any Columbus City events, but it still takes time when it comes to sanitation purposes.
