Today with Columbus City Schools, I found myself going back to Columbus East High School after I was just there on Friday. But today, it’s not for track, it’s for softball. I have to say, once spring sports started, I’ve put some miles on my car. I don’t mind it because I get to see different venues and facilities and make comparisons with teams from across the city. I like putting myself in these situations because I wanted to see where I can help in the future. Maybe offering grants to help these schools. The city wants to compete with the best in academics and athletics, but we need more opportunities here to do so. Maybe that’s my calling. Moving on, the softball field at East was surprisingly dry, and ready to go for the event at hand. Like others, they had minimal fans, and everybody had to wear masks. Unfortunately, the dry field didn’t last due to some minimal rain, but it wasn’t enough to halt the contest. On the outside looking in, both teams were properly equipped, and had plenty of extra equipment for emergency purposes. This is always good to notice because as stated in previous journals, funding is not equally portioned through each sport. Sports bring in more money than others, which means some budgets are bigger than others. It’s cool learning such small details, but those small details leave huge impacts in a sports program. I see why schools on the collegiate and high school level cuts certain sports. By the way, the Lady Vikings of Northland got run ruled. Looking forward to a busy next few weeks to close out the internship, and see where I can advance at in this field. ALMOST TO GRADUATION.
