Today with Columbus City Schools, I started in the office briefly before we had to set up the softball field for the upcoming scrimmage. Briefly before the set up, I had to study the specific Covid protocols again for this specific sport to make sure everybody is compliant in order for this even to start on time, and to be completed. Unlike basketball season, spectators were allowed for this softball event. I was shocked because normally, fans aren’t allowed at any Columbus City events. All spectators must wear masks and must be social distanced from other fans. They can be in groups but only limited to 3 people per group. Also, coaches in the dugout or on the field must have their masks or face coverings on as well. This was a good experience because this is my first softball event ever. It was a lot to learn about the set up because the plate dimensions are different from baseball. Also, the outfield is shorter and the mound to homeplate is shorter as well. I have to do more research but one thing I did see was that some players had their masks on, and some had them off. It could be preference, but that’s what I observed in the process. This is a great learning experience and it’s making me more well-rounded because this will make me more versatile as a future AD or business owner. I will have knowledge of multiple sports and knowledge of managing sporting events. There is a lot of work into setting up and taking down and preparing for these events. The more experience I continue to get, the more comfortable I will be with these responsibilities.
