It’s been a while since I was the head Athletic Director. Today, I received another opportunity to do that. This specific sport is another first for me and that sport is boys Volleyball. Personally, I never been to a volleyball game before, but I understand what’s going on because I’ve watched some matches before. Boys’ volleyball is allowed to have spectators, which I found out the day of. Today, I have to make sure we practice social distancing and proper sanitation protocols as well to ensure safety for all student-athletes, coaches, and spectators. Set up wasn’t as bad as it was for track, but we have to ensure we that they volleyball net is in great condition. All balls and the head referee have a stand to look over the net. We made sure that all equipment was game ready for everybody involved. I was in charge of the guest list and taking payment from spectators. It was just me and Mario today, but I was the head man. If anybody had any questions or concerns, they had to go through me for any possible solutions. The one thing I don’t normally do is the technology set up. Mario normally sets up the scoreboard and make sure the settings are correct for the right sport that is being played at that time. I don’t want to get involved in that because I don’t ever want to out the score keepers in a bad position because of me, and that’s why I let the experts figure out all technological issues. Outside of that I will do all the groundwork that will develop our foundation for successful events. Luckily, there weren’t any major issues this evening, but it was an epic 5 set win by Northland. Interesting fact for this game is that there were all Briggs fans in attendance and no Northland fans. It really was a road game being played at home. It was a great experience, can’t wait to be head AD again for the next event.
