Today with Columbus City Schools, I decided to a pull a double by being with Mario early, while working at the same time. Nothing is going to stop me earning these hours and getting more opportunities to learn and observe Mario and any other person that I can come in contact with. Since my job is not as demanding on Fridays, it was a little bit easier to transition from internship to work or vise versa. Kids were in school today on a hybrid system, so there was times Mario had to make rounds around the school to make sure kids are where they are supposed to be. Mario is not just involved in athletics, but he is involved with regular students as well. He wants everybody to succeed, and I can respect that. I was able to observe him plug in money into the financial reports from the volleyball game the night before. If there is something I want to learn more about, it’s financial reporting and budgeting through all sports for the school itself or just the athletic program specifically. I believe I will be better with numbers if I understand more on what’s going on. For example, where does money come from? Where are we sending money too? What’s the budget per sport? Why can’t schools accept outside donations from professional athletes? There is a lot to go into it and I want to learn more about it. Also, since we really haven’t gone over bylaws for boys’ and girls’ volleyball, I did take some time to make sure I studied over the bylaws just for more background understanding. Today was a real slow day, but to physically see students back in the hallways is a good feeling of normalcy. I’m not slowing down, any time soon. Can’t wait and see what’s next for me at Columbus City Schools.
