Today with Columbus City Schools, we are starting to prepare for spring sports. We are hoping the City League stays open for student athletes to compete in their respective sports. Mario showed me some things when it came to competitive balance for spring sport athletes. It all has to do with eligibility and who will be able to perform. Also, I learned about how that Athletic Directors in Columbus City has do tier ratings for officials and submit them to OHSAA. This gets swept under the rug sometimes and they can’t afford that to happen because of fine’s that they receive. They have specific deadlines for all sports to complete these forms for OHSAA to avoid being penalized. They have monthly checklists that they have to go by to keep their information up to date. I can tell this is one of things that Mario doesn’t like to do. It’s a bunch of busy work that can be easily looked over, but also it can take a long time to complete. Helping help fill out and submitting these forms aren’t that bad. But who likes paperwork? Not a lot of people. Today was the first time I got to see some accounts payable documents for winter league sports and man the dollar amount was scare. Not a lot of money was made and not a lot of opportunity to make money. It just showed some of the payouts they have to make to people that help out with make the operation go. I wish my name was on there but its currently not. Even after the playoff game Northland hosted, the revenue for the ticket sales all went OHSAA and Northland specifically didn’t get any piece of the pie. OHSAA has been losing money during the pandemic, so you know they had to get their share. Lastly, we submitted all contact information for all spring sports. It was a good day and very quiet since students are still not in school yet. It was really peaceful to just sit back and learn from one of the best Athletic Directors in Columbus City.
