Today, the Northland Lady Vikings vs Linden McKinley basketball game was canceled due to player availability in their team. I had the opportunity to attend the Boys game that was at Linden McKinley and observe how things are ran at different programs throughout Columbus City Schools. I thought this was a great experience because it shows you that not everybody is the same when it comes to their occupation. Everybody that are under the same rules and protocols still work differently in order for their program to host a successful event. They had a real smooth system of how they wanted things executed and accomplished. Being a part of Columbus City Schools give you the opportunities to see how programs are led and what direction the athletic program is heading. The normal role that I am taking is being an assistant to the Director of Athletics and learning more what goes into the day-to-day process of being a Director of Athletics no matter the school. Personally, I know it’s a difficult job, but it’s a lot more that goes into being the director of Athletics that the naked eye can see. A lot of preparation for events, marketing, sponsorships, budgeting and much more. Communication is very important in this role because of what you need for successful events, paperwork for OHSAA, and more. It’s more than just being a name, there is a lot of dirty work that needs to be done, and a lot of spectators don’t know what goes on behind the scenes.
