Today with Columbus City schools, I found myself on the road again heading to Whitehall. Whitehall is not a city school, so this is another opportunity to observe on behalf of Mario and see if I can see if there is any difference between the programs and how they are running. I’ve been to their stadium before but there have been some changes since the last time I was there. They have a new beautiful football stadium. The softball field is in wonderful condition after some rain and light drizzle that we got in the central Ohio area. The biggest difference with outside of Columbus City experience is the crowd size. They had a bigger crowd than what we normally would see in the city. Even though I love going to see new places, I’m coming to the point where there are not a lot of changes from team to team in the smaller sports such as softball and volleyball (I’m assuming). Track, basketball, and football are different because they are more high maintenance than the other sports. Northland softball is having a very tough year, but the sportsmanship aspect is wonderful from the other side. They took real good care of the girls and made sure they had everything they needed. One thing to look for is how another school treats your school while you are on the road. One thing I learned is that you just can’t look after your own program, you have to take care of all other programs that are using your facilities. That goes a long way when it comes to other schools doing business with you. I will be back at Whitehall tomorrow for another track meet. The end is near.
